Truffles, Tannins and ‘Tongs

Truffles, Tannins and ‘Tongs

I developed this tour as part of Canberra’s annual Truffle Festival. I used the story of the Eastern Bettong – an ‘ecosystem engineer’ that feasts on native truffles – to capture an interest in the conservation story of Mulligans Flat. To create a memorable sensory experience and draw new audiences to the Sanctuary, I collaborated with a local winery and truffle farm, Mt Majura Vineyard, who provided matching wine and truffle cheese.

I engaged the photographer Adam McGrath and directed a series of images to promote the tour and future food experiences in the Sanctuary (the photo pictured is from this series).

Writing in the Sanctuary

Writing in the Sanctuary

Working with Internationally produced placed-based writer – Emma Gibson, I developed a two-part writing/poetry workshop at Mulligans Flat. The content involved a mix of ecology and human history of the area, especially focussing on the Indigenous history of the land. Our Indigenous Project Officer – Kristi Lee, and youngest staff member – Wiradjuri woman Dhani Gilbert, supported Emma to tell stories of the land and inspire visitors. This gave participants a chance to meaningful engage with the Sanctuary, and impart their own feelings into the landscape.

Valentines Day Pendant Making Workshop

Valentines Day Pendant Making Workshop

Working with the Mulligans Flat Artist in Residence (a program I established and artist engaged), I organised a workshop to give community members the opportunity to create their own piece of jewellery inspired by the landscape. The tickets for this workshop sold out within a day.

Description:

‘If you love someone as much as you love Mulligans Flat, then this Valentine's Day workshop is for you.
Combine a nature experience with making a unique piece of silver jewellery that can be imprinted with textures of the woodland. Take a loved one and make each other something special, or come along and make something for yourself.’
